6 Things to Consider Before Eloping
6 Things to Consider Before Eloping
With SO many details involved with weddings, an elopement might be a great option for you! Just because you are considering eloping, doesn’t mean there aren’t some big decisions to make. Here are 6 things to consider
What is your vision for the day?
Are you trying to stay on budget, or do you simply want a more intimate ceremony without the production of the wedding? Even an elopement can have lots of moving parts so get clear on your overall vision for the day, so then the decisions for the details come more easily.
2. What details do you want to include?
Was it your dream to have your grandmother as part of your big day? Can she travel? How will your dress travel? Are there fees to bring your photographer with you? No matter how you get married, there are always details to consider.
Tip: Call your airline before you fly with your dress! Lots of airplanes have hanging cabin space in the front for the flight attendants. It is first come first serve, but then you can hang your dress instead of laying it flat in the overhead bin!
3. Are you going to keep it a secret?
Know that eloping doesn’t have to be a huge secret or spontaneous! It can be well thought out and organized. As you are making your announcements, tell your close friends and family first! This is your day, but there are always a lot of feelings involved in weddings, so this will make your tribe feel important. Then send a “We Tied the Knot” announcement, and then post on social media.
4. Will you have a post elopement celebration?
Post elopement celebrations can be great way to include your loved ones after the fact, but still make it your special day! Playing a slideshow or video from your elopement can be a great way to negate the angry mob when you get home.
5. Know that not everyone is going to get it.
You might get some kick back from the people closest to you on your decision to elope. Be ready for the roller coaster, and know that this too shall pass.
6. Where are you going to get married?
Know the rules of the state or country you are going to get married in and how to get a marriage licence there. Different countries especially have different rules on getting legally married in their country so doing your research is a must! Feeling overwhelmed? Hire local help so your day goes off without a hitch!
I hope these six questions to consider when planning your elopement help you plan your perfect day! Remember that picking your date is most important, but picking your photographer is next! Those photos will last a lifetime and are perfect to share with your tribe when you return home!
